alternate views

As a wooded retreat near the center of a large resort, this home was sited to enhance the serenity and views. The pristine views were a major determinant of the building's form; creating three separate modules provided the privacy, intimacy, and the numerous views of the forested and water body environment on the site. An intimate entrance opening into a dramatic gallery space became a major theme for the house. All aspects of the house, from small decks to large timber framed great room, evoke a desire for intimacy and the presentation of views. Guest privacy was created without a sense of isolation. Location of the guest facilities maintained the privacy of the owners and optimized the use of common spaces. Small intimate views are contrasted with the dramatic interior timber frame elements, while shadows cast from natural lighting succeed in stitching these contrasts into one experience.
